Donating Books

9/23/21

Dear Fellow Book Lovers,

The Friends of Lyme Library has started accepting donated used books as of the first of September.

Prior to the pandemic, we were overwhelmed by the number of unsaleable books we received.  More and more people were bringing boxes of books that had been around a long time. Many (often most) had to go to recycling, which we are finding harder to do. Examples of books that do not sell are non-fiction books over 5 years old and adult fiction over 10 years old. Exceptions to this are classics, first editions, and beautiful coffee table books.  Books with dog-eared pages, handwriting in them, or are musty or beaten up also do not sell. We can sell older children’s books that are in good condition.

WE RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT YOU SCREEN THE BOOKS YOU WANT TO GIVE AWAY BEFORE BRINGING THEM IN. WE CAN ACCEPT ONLY  2 BOXES PER DONOR, PER 2 MONTHS. If you have more books than that, we would be happy to come to your home to look them over and take away the books we think we can sell.

Used books are always for sale just inside the library’s side entrance.

Please respond to this email if you have questions or wish to request a home visit or call Cindy Swart at 795-2243.

As always, we appreciate your donations. Happy Reading.
